About Brygghuset

Sundsörn restaurant – history & background

A fourth-generation family business

Restaurang Brygghuset opened its doors in 1996 and has since fed many hungry guests and residents throughout the area. We serve homemade food with great care and heart, just as Kerstin and Olof Abrahamsson envisioned when they first broke ground to build a spacious, bright restaurant with a striking view of Östersundet.

In the late 1940s, Olof’s parents, Arthur and Karin Abrahamsson, provided land for summer cottages in the Sundsörn area, Sweden. During the 1970s, this was taken over by Olof and his wife Kerstin, who ran the business with great commitment and a clear vision. They wanted to create and further develop the summer cottage area with a clear detailed plan, while also starting a lucrative potato and strawberry farm. In 1995, a total renovation of the area began, where the beach was cleared and made swim-friendly. They expanded the roads and installed water in the area. The following year, Restaurang Brygghuset was built, becoming a natural meeting point for guests and residents.

Today, the fourth generation of the Abrahamsson family, led by Johan and Malin, runs Sundsörn’s campsite. Their children help out as much as their studies allow, and the hope is that the fifth generation of Abrahamssons will take over in due time. Sundsörn’s camping stands for safety, service, heart, and soul, which is reflected in the high percentage of returning guests year after year. Future plans for the campsite include creating a rural idyll with a small farm. The idea behind it is to let children and adults care for the animals to learn and understand the value of empathy and the importance of protecting animals and nature.
